Tips for the First Time Massage Recipient
Massage therapy is no longer just a luxury. It is becoming more widely accepted as an integral part of overall well-being. Massage can be an excellent addition to your wellness routine, and we understand that it can be a little daunting at times for the newcomer. Here are some tips from your Spa Rockaway massage therapists that should help answer any questions you might have and put your mind at ease to allow for the best possible treatment.
Nothing during a massage should make you in any way uneasy. For example, a common question is how much clothing to remove. We will address this with you before the treatment begins. You can undress to your comfort level. If this means being nude, that's okay. And if it means leaving your undergarments on, that's okay too. If you don't want your feet touched, feel free to leave your socks on.
Please tell us if there is anything you don't want worked on. If you're going out to dinner after your massage and don't want to mess up your hair, let us know. If you're extremely ticklish in certain areas, you can ask us not to work on those areas.
Similarly, if there is something you specifically want us to work on, indicate that as well. If you really enjoy having your feet massaged, we can spend a little extra time on them, etc.
Pain does not always equal gain. Oftentimes, massage can be slightly uncomfortable for areas with a lot of tension. The level of pressure should be tolerable. If you experience a lot of pain during a massage, it's likely you're tensing up another part of the body. This is counterproductive. We will discuss pressure with you and adjust the level accordingly. You can tell us at any time throughout the massage if you would like more or less pressure. If the pressure feels good on one area of the body but hurts somewhere else, don't be afraid to ask us to ease up on that particular area. We cannot tell what our touch feels like to you, so communication is vital to getting the most of our your treatment.
The important thing to remember is that all of the therapists at Spa Rockaway are trained, licensed professionals. We are healers. We want you to have the most beneficial and enjoyable treatment possible. If there is anything that you're unclear about at any time, whether before the session or in the middle, please don't hesitate to ask us! We are here to help!
